فَتَضَايَقَ دَاوُدُ جِدًّا لأَنَّ الشَّعْبَ قَالُوا بِرَجْمِهِ، لأَنَّ أَنْفُسَ جَمِيعِ الشَّعْبِ كَانَتْ مُرَّةً كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ عَلَى بَنِيهِ وَبَنَاتِهِ. وَأَمَّا دَاوُدُ فَتَشَدَّدَ بِالرَّبِّ إِلهِهِ.

وَتَفَاقَمَ ضِيقُ دَاوُدَ لأَنَّ الرِّجَالَ، مِنْ فَرْطِ مَا حَلَّ بِهِمْ مِنْ مَرَارَةٍ وَأَسىً عَلَى أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَبَنَاتِهِمْ، طَالَبُوا بِرَجْمِهِ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ دَاوُدَ تَشَبَّثَ وَتَقَوَّى بِالرَّبِّ إِلَهِهِ.
