وَكَانَ أَبْشَالُومُ يُبَكِّرُ وَيَقِفُ بِجَانِبِ طَرِيقِ الْبَابِ، وَكُلُّ صَاحِبِ دَعْوَى آتٍ إِلَى الْمَلِكِ لأَجْلِ الْحُكْمِ، كَانَ أَبْشَالُومُ يَدْعُوهُ إِلَيْهِ وَيَقُولُ: «مِنْ أَيَّةِ مَدِينَةٍ أَنْتَ؟» فَيَقُولُ: «مِنْ أَحَدِ أَسْبَاطِ إِسْرَائِيلَ عَبْدُكَ».
