What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.
What G5101 shall we say G3004 then G3767? Is the Law G3551 sin G266? [fn]Far G3361 from G3361 it! On the contrary G235, I would not have come to know G1097 sin G266 except G1508 [fn]through G1223 the Law G3551; for I would not have known G6063 about G6063 [fn]coveting G1939 if G1487 the Law G3551 had not said G3004, “YOU SHALL NOT [fn]COVET G1937.”

What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, if it had not been for the Law, I would not have recognized sin. For I would not have known [for example] about coveting [what belongs to another, and would have had no sense of guilt] if the Law had not [repeatedly] said, “YOU SHALL NOT COVET.”
فَمَاذَا نَقُولُ؟ هَلِ النَّامُوسُ خَطِيَّةٌ؟ حَاشَا! بَلْ لَمْ أَعْرِفِ الْخَطِيَّةَ إِلاَّ بِالنَّامُوسِ. فَإِنَّنِي لَمْ أَعْرِفِ الشَّهْوَةَ لَوْ لَمْ يَقُلِ النَّامُوسُ:«لاَ تَشْتَهِ».
The Textus Receptus (latin, "Received Text") is the Greek text originally compiled by Erasmus around 1516. Though the earliest work was prepared by Desiderius Erasmus, his work was later revised by Robert Estienne (or, Stephanus) and further revised by Theodore Beza. The text produced by each is substantially the same, aside from some minor variations. The Blue Letter Bible utilizes Stephanus' edition from 1550.
