Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken: but the people escaped.

Then Saul prayed, “O LORD, God of Israel, please show us who is guilty and who is innocent.[fn]” Then they cast sacred lots, and Jonathan and Saul were chosen as the guilty ones, and the people were declared innocent.

Then Saul prayed to the LORD, the God of Israel, “Why have you not answered your servant today? If the fault is in me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim, but if the men of Israel are at fault,[fn] respond with Thummim.” Jonathan and Saul were taken by lot, and the men were cleared.

Therefore Saul said, “O LORD God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O LORD, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.”[fn] And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.

وَقَالَ شَاوُلُ لِلرَّبِّ إِلهِ إِسْرَائِيلَ: «هَبْ صِدْقًا». فَأُخِذَ يُونَاثَانُ وَشَاوُلُ، أَمَّا الشَّعْبُ فَخَرَجُوا.

وَصَلَّى شَاوُلُ لِلرَّبِّ إِلَهِ إِسْرَائِيلَ قَائِلاً: «اكْشِفْ لِيَ الْحَقَّ». فَوَقَعَتِ الْقُرْعَةُ عَلَى شَاوُلَ وَيُونَاثَانَ، وَتَبَرَّأَ الْقَوْمُ.

Lord God of Israel, give [fn]clear manifestations; and if the lot should declare this, give, I pray thee, to thy people Israel, give, I pray, holiness. And Jonathan and Saul are taken, and the people escaped.
