The twelve stones corresponded to the names of Israel’s sons. Each stone was engraved like a seal with one of the names of the twelve tribes.
وَالْحِجَارَةُ كَانَتْ عَلَى أَسْمَاءِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ عَلَى أَسْمَائِهِمْ كَنَقْشِ الْخَاتِمِ. كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ عَلَى اسْمِهِ لِلاثْنَيْ عَشَرَ سِبْطًا.
The Latin Vulgate was translated from the original languages into Latin by Jerome in A.D. 405. For over a millennium, it remained as the preferred translation of the church. This version of the Bible is in the public domain.
