Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. - Proverbs 31:30 [KJV]

God's Word for Gardeners

Shelley Cramms extraordinary journey as a writer began when she read Jesus words, I am the vine, and my Father is the gardener (John 15:1-10 NIV). God providentially used her novice's interest in gardening to spark a desire within Cramm to begin digging for every biblical theme that related to gardeningcultivating, sowing, pruning, and reapingas well as the intimate horticultural detail in the mention of Bible plants. She soon discovered how much the Christian walk of faith mirrors the practical life of a gardener. Her years of prayer and diligent study, using Blue Letter Bible, led to the publication of a 52-week devotional, NIV Gods Word for Gardeners Bible.

Below you will find reproductions of lovely devotionals from the 19th Century.

The Royal Invitation

In our original edition of Royal Gems, a beautiful cursive handwriting decorates the inside cover with a name and the date of March 22, 1896. We can only imagine how often the recipient read and gleaned from the riches within. Nearly 120 years later however, we are also privileged to partake of this Scripture-filled devotional, now in a digital format.

The Royal Invitation is one of five books contained in a collection written by Frances Ridley Havergal in the 1880s. This book embraces the many requests from God’s word for us to ‘come’ to Him. When Jesus said to the disciples “Come follow Me,” it was a royal invitation of His kingly love, which He offers to us even now. Indulge your heart with this wonderfully-composed devotional that will bless your soul and elicit praises for our King of kings.

Vessels of Gold, printed in London by Marcus Ward & Sons, circa 1890. This is a Scripture-based devotional for each day of the month.

The theme is taken from 2 Timothy 2:21, “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.”

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
