Chuck Smith
Study Guide for 2 John

v. 1 John refers to himself as "the elder."

We don't know the identity of the "elect lady" to whom this letter is addressed. The "truth" is central to the message of this letter.

v. 5 The commandment to love was given to the believers at the beginning of Christ's ministry.

v. 6 The commandment is to walk in love (John 13:34).

v. 7 This should be translated " . . . who confess not that Jesus Christ is coming in the flesh." Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe that Christ will come again in the flesh .

v. 10 The doctrine John refers to is that Jesus is coming in the flesh and that we should worship the Father and the Son.
