“THE Lord was with David” (1 Sam. 18:12, 14, 28). All that David had achieved, and all that He was, were due to the presence of the Lord. The secret of David’s greatness (2 Sam. 5:10), the cause of his victories (2 Sam. 22:30), the source of his overcoming Goliath (1 Sam. 17:45), the reason of his wise behaviour (1 Sam. 18:14), and the strength of his comfort (Psalm 23:4), were all found in the Lord’s presence with him. To recognise God’s presence with us means:—

  1. Rest in walk (Ex. 33:14).
  2. Refreshment in trial (Heb. 13:5-6).
  3. Rejoicing in trouble (Acts 27:23).
  4. Renewal in weakness (Isaiah 40:31).
  5. Resource in service (Matt. 28:20).
  6. Reflection in life (2 Cor. 3:18).
  7. Reward in persecution (2 Tim. 4:17).
