"THIS THY DAY."
I. THE CHANGED ATTITUDE OF CHRIST.
A. Prior to this day, He discouraged any display.
1. John 6:15 "When He perceived they would take him by force."
2. John 7:4 "Shew thyself to the world."
3. John 7:6 "My hour is not yet come."
B. Here we see Christ taking the initiative.
C. Why the change of attitude?
1. Because God's Word required it to be.
D. Which scriptures?
1. Prophecy of dying Jacob, Gen. 49:9-11. "The scepter shall not depart from Judah nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto Him shall the gathering of the people be." "Binding His foal unto the vine and his ass's colt unto the choice vine."
2. Dan. 9:24-27 seventy sevens:
a. 7 sevens rebuilding Jerusalem. 49 yrs.
b. 62 more until Messiah the Prince. 434. 483.
c. "The Coming Prince."
3. Zech. 9:9 "Rejoice greatly Oh daughter of Zion, shout O daughter of Jerusalem; behold thy king cometh unto thee. He is just, and having salvation, lowly and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass." At least these three prophecies fulfilled when Christ entered Jerusalem. God only adequate explanation.
II. THE CRY OF THE CROWD "HOSANNA, BLESSED IS THE KING OF ISRAEL, THAT COMETH IN THE NAME OF THE LORD."
A. Father caused public testimony to glory of Son.
B. Birth, angels "Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord."
C. Save Now: The wise men asked, "Where is He that is King of the Jews?"
D. Cry of crowd, "Blessed is the King of Israel."
E. Writing of Pilate.
