"IMPOSSIBILITY OF TAKING BEATITUDES AND PUTTING THEM INTO PRACTICE"
I. IDEA OF PEACEMAKER SHOCK TO JEWS - MILITARY.
A. Why so hard to maintain peace in world.
1. Why did league of nations fail?
2. Problems deeper than social, economic, etc. Sin.
3. Trouble within the heart.
a. No advantage to manipulate surface.
4. Out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts, murders.
B. Are you surprised at wars or rumors of war.
C. Great need of world today peacemakers.
1. What is peacemaker?
a. Not easy going.
b. Not peace at any price.
2. Not just avoids trouble but actively seeks to produce peace.
3. This involves new nature.
D. Before one can be a peacemaker, he must be entirely delivered from self, from self interest and self concern. You must not be sensitive, you must not be touchy. You must not be on defensive.
E. The peacemaker does not look at things in terms to how they may effect self.
1. He has looked at self and seen the wretchedness.
2. I deserve nothing, I have no rights.
3. Do you hate your natural self?
a. "He that loveth his life shall lose it."
b. "O wretched man."
F. New view of self and of others.
1. Does not ask, "Why do they act like that?"
2. They are acting that way because God is not governing.
G. Putting into practice:
1. Learn not to speak, control our tongues.
2. View situation in light of gospel.
3. Go out of your way to make peace.
4. Diffuse peace wherever we are, lovable, selfless.
H. Christ's example:
1. Did not claim His rights.
2. Humbled himself.
