"FOUNTAINS OF LIVING WATER."
John is here describing some of the blessings of the heavenly state.
I. "THEY SHALL HUNGER NO MORE, NEITHER THIRST."
A. Imagine never being hungry again.
1. Here our lives seem to be a constant appetite.
a. We have our body appetites; food, water.
b. We have our emotional appetites; love, security.
c. We have our spiritual appetites; purpose, reality.
2. Our lives consist of trying to satisfy our appetites.
a. All of our labor so we can satisfy our hunger.
b. All our scheming, striving.
B. We shall hunger no more for we shall be constantly filled.
1. So completely and constantly we shall never again experience hunger or thirst.
2. We shall be able to devote ourselves to more than just a struggle to be filled.
II. "FOR THE LAMB WHO IS IN THE MIDST OF THE THRONE SHALL FEED THEM."
A. The Book of Revelation is the unveiling of Jesus Christ in His future glory.
1. He is pictured as a Lamb.
a. As such, we are reminded of His sacrifice for us.
b. Throughout O.T. period man was to bring sacrificial offerings to God.
1. The idea was to give God something that cost you.
2. David said, "I will not give to the Lord that which cost me nothing."
c. In the N.T. we see God sacrificing for man.
1. Giving that which was most precious to Him, His only begotten Son.
2. When we see Him as a Lamb we will be reminded of God's great love for us.
3. The Greek word translated "feed" is shepherd.
a. "The Lamb shall shepherd them."
1. Who would better know the needs of the sheep?
2. He became as us to better understand us so as to better help us.
3. He became as us so as we might become as Him.
III. "AND SHALL LEAD THEM TO LIVING FOUNTAINS OF WATERS."
A. Jesus cried at the feast, "If any man thirst..."
1. To the woman of Samaria He said, "He who drinks of this water..."
2. To the Jews He said, "I am the bread of life, he that cometh to Me shall never hunger."
3. Hunger, thirst, common words, common experiences.
a. The day is coming when these words shall be removed from our vocabularies.
4. Who is it that He shepherds over?
a. "My sheep do hear My voice and they do follow Me."
