Born: August 9, 1812, Holywood, Belfast, Ireland.

Emma married Rev. Nicholas Toke, Godington Park, Ashford, Kent, in 1837. Her early hymns were written in 1851, “at the request of a friend who was collecting for the Committee of the S.P.C.K. [Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge].”
