When the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, he said to himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of human beings, even though the inclination of the human heart is evil from youth onward. And I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.

“I will bring a bit of bread so that you may strengthen yourselves. This is why you have passed your servant's way. Later, you can continue on.”

“Yes,” they replied, “do as you have said.”

“It turned out just the way he interpreted them to us: I was restored to my position, and the other man was hanged.”

“Put my cup, the silver one, at the top of the youngest one's bag, along with the silver for his grain.” So he did as Joseph told him.

The LORD said to Moses, “Cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke.

After that, the Levites came to do their work at the tent of meeting in the presence of Aaron and his sons. So they did to them as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites.

But the LORD said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have handed him over to you along with his whole army and his land. Do to him as you did to King Sihon of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.”

“Increase the inheritance for a large tribe and decrease it for a small one. Each is to be given its inheritance according to those who were registered in it.

“just as the descendants of Esau who live in Seir did for us, and the Moabites who live in Ar, until we cross the Jordan into the land the LORD our God is giving us.'

“to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you in and give you their land as an inheritance, as is now taking place.

“so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.

“that he will elevate you to praise, fame, and glory above all the nations he has made, and that you will be a holy people to the LORD your God as he promised.”

Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps[fn] under my table. God has repaid me for what I have done.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

Whenever the Israelites went out, the LORD was against them and brought disaster on them, just as he had promised and sworn to them. So they suffered greatly.

LORD, may all your enemies perish as Sisera did.[fn]

But may those who love him

be like the rising of the sun in its strength.

And the land had peace for forty years.

So he said to them, “What have I done now compared to you? Is not the gleaning of Ephraim better than the grape harvest of Abiezer?

Then three thousand men of Judah went to the cave at the rock of Etam, and they asked Samson, “Don't you realize that the Philistines rule us? What have you done to us? ”

“I have done to them what they did to me,” he answered.[fn]

Then she cried, “Samson, the Philistines are here! ” When he awoke from his sleep, he said, “I will escape as I did before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him.

On the third day the Israelites fought against the Benjaminites and took their battle positions against Gibeah as before.

the men of Israel would return to the battle. When Benjamin had begun to strike them down, killing about thirty men of Israel, they said, “They're defeated before us, just as they were in the first battle.”

Naomi said to them, “Each of you go back to your mother's home. May the LORD show kindness to you as you have shown to the dead and to me.

“Show some courage and be men, Philistines! Otherwise, you'll serve the Hebrews just as they served you. Now be men and fight! ”

But David said, “Your father certainly knows that I have found favor with you. He has said, ‘Jonathan must not know of this, or else he will be grieved.' ” David also swore, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, there is but a step between me and death.”

“If my father intends to bring evil on you, may the LORD punish Jonathan and do so severely if I do not tell you and send you away so you may leave safely. May the LORD be with you, just as he was with my father.

In the morning Jonathan went out to the countryside for the appointed meeting with David. A young servant was with him.

“Will the citizens of Keilah hand me over to him? Will Saul come down as your servant has heard? LORD God of Israel, please tell your servant.”

The LORD answered, “He will come down.”

“As the old proverb says, ‘Wickedness comes from wicked people.' My hand will never be against you.

“When a man finds his enemy, does he let him go unharmed?[fn] May the LORD repay you with good for what you've done for me today.

“Now my lord, as surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live ​— ​it is the LORD who kept you from participating in bloodshed and avenging yourself by your own hand—may your enemies and those who intend to harm my lord be like Nabal.

“So don't let my blood fall to the ground far from the LORD's presence, for the king of Israel has come out to search for a single flea, like one who pursues a partridge in the mountains.”

“Just as I considered your life valuable today, so may the LORD consider my life valuable and rescue me from all trouble.”

“The LORD has done[fn] exactly what he said through me: The LORD has torn the kingship out of your hand and given it to your neighbor David.

“May God punish Abner and do so severely if I don't do for David what the LORD swore to him:

So David did exactly as the LORD commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Geba to Gezer.

When David returned home to bless his household, Saul's daughter Michal came out to meet him. “How the king of Israel honored himself today! ” she said. “He exposed himself today in the sight of the slave girls of his subjects like a vulgar person would expose himself.”

“I will designate a place for my people Israel and plant them, so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not continue to oppress them as they have done

“But my faithful love will never leave him as it did when I removed it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.

Now, LORD God, fulfill the promise forever that you have made to your servant and his house. Do as you have promised,

Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do all my lord the king commands.”

So Mephibosheth ate at David's[fn] table just like one of the king's sons.

“Your servant thought: May the word of my lord the king bring relief, for my lord the king is able to discern the good and the bad like the angel of God. May the LORD your God be with you.”

“Joab your servant has done this to address the issue indirectly,[fn] but my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God, knowing everything on earth.”

“Then, even a brave man with the heart of a lion will lose heart[fn] because all Israel knows that your father and the valiant men with him are warriors.

“just as I swore to you by the LORD God of Israel: Your son Solomon is to become king after me, and he is the one who is to sit on my throne in my place, that is exactly what I will do this very day.”

“Just as the LORD was with my lord the king, so may he[fn] be with Solomon and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”

“And now, as the LORD lives ​— ​the one who established me, seated me on the throne of my father David, and made me a dynasty as he promised ​— ​I swear Adonijah will be put to death today! ”

The king said to him, “Do just as he says. Strike him down and bury him in order to remove from me and from my father's family the blood that Joab shed without just cause.

And Solomon replied, “You have shown great and faithful love to your servant, my father David, because he walked before you in faithfulness, righteousness, and integrity.[fn] You have continued this great and faithful love for him by giving him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

“So I plan to build a temple for the name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD promised my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the temple for my name.'

The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he had promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.

The LORD has fulfilled what he promised.

I have taken the place of my father David,

and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised.

I have built the temple for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

Therefore, LORD God of Israel,

keep what you promised

to your servant, my father David:

You will never fail to have a man

to sit before me on the throne of Israel,

if only your sons take care to walk before me

as you have walked before me.

may you hear in heaven, your dwelling place,

and may you forgive, act, and give to everyone

according to all their ways, since you know each heart,

for you alone know every human heart,

may you hear in heaven, your dwelling place,

and do according to all the foreigner asks.

Then all peoples of earth will know your name,

to fear you as your people Israel do

and to know that this temple I have built

bears your name.

For you, Lord GOD, have set them apart as your inheritance

from all peoples of the earth,

as you spoke through your servant Moses

when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt.

“May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our ancestors. May he not abandon us or leave us

the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time just as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

As for you, if you walk before me as your father David walked, with a heart of integrity and in what is right, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep my statutes and ordinances,

“But I didn't believe the reports until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, I was not even told half. Your wisdom and prosperity far exceed the report I heard.

When Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away to follow other gods. He was not wholeheartedly devoted to the LORD his God, as his father David had been.

“ ‘After that, if you obey all I command you, walk in my ways, and do what is right in my sight in order to keep my statutes and my commands as my servant David did, I will be with you. I will build you a lasting dynasty just as I built for David, and I will give you Israel.

Then the king responded to the man of God, “Plead for the favor of the LORD your God and pray for me so that my hand may be restored to me.” So the man of God pleaded for the favor of the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him and became as it had been at first.

He said to him, “I am also a prophet like you. An angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD: ‘Bring him back with you to your house so that he may eat food and drink water.' ” The old prophet deceived him,

He also removed his grandmother[fn] Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. Asa chopped down her obscene image and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “May the gods punish me and do so severely if I don't make your life like the life of one of them by this time tomorrow! ”

Then the king of Israel answered, “Just as you say, my lord the king: I am yours, along with all that I have.”

Then Ben-hadad said to him, “I restore to you the cities that my father took from your father, and you may set up marketplaces for yourself in Damascus, like my father set up in Samaria.”

Ahab responded, “On the basis of this treaty, I release you.” So he made a treaty with him and released him.

So he asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to fight Ramoth-gilead? ”

Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

The men of the city said to Elisha, “My lord can see that even though the city's location is good, the water is bad and the land unfruitful.”

He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for Ahab's daughter was his wife. He did what was evil in the LORD's sight.

He walked in the ways of the house of Ahab and did what was evil in the LORD's sight like the house of Ahab, for his father had married into[fn] the house of Ahab.

When he left there, he found Jehonadab son of Rechab coming to meet him. He greeted him and then asked, “Is your heart one with mine? ”[fn]

“It is,” Jehonadab replied.

Jehu said, “If it is,[fn] give me your hand.”

So he gave him his hand, and Jehu pulled him up into the chariot with him.

Therefore, the LORD gave Israel a deliverer, and they escaped from the power of the Arameans. Then the people of Israel returned to their former way of life,[fn]

However, he did not put the children of the killers to death, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses where the LORD commanded, “Fathers are not to be put to death because of children, and children are not to be put to death because of fathers; instead, each one will be put to death for his own sin.”

They burned incense there on all the high places just like the nations that the LORD had driven out before them had done. They did evil things, angering the LORD.

Finally, the LORD removed Israel from his presence just as he had declared through all his servants the prophets. So Israel has been exiled to Assyria from their homeland to this very day.

He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed and reestablished the altars for Baal. He made an Asherah, as King Ahab of Israel had done; he also bowed in worship to all the stars in the sky and served them.

“I will stretch over Jerusalem the measuring line used on Samaria and the mason's level used on the house of Ahab, and I will wipe Jerusalem clean as one wipes a bowl ​— ​wiping it and turning it upside down.

He did what was evil in the LORD's sight, just as his father Manasseh had done.

The king commanded all the people, “Observe the Passover of the LORD your God as written in the book of the covenant.”

For the LORD had said, “I will also remove Judah from my presence just as I have removed Israel. I will reject this city Jerusalem, that I have chosen, and the temple about which I said, ‘My name will be there.' ”

So David did as God commanded him, and they struck down the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.

They also cast lots the same way as their relatives the descendants of Aaron did in the presence of King David, Zadok, Ahimelech, and the heads of the families of the priests and Levites ​— ​the family heads and their younger brothers alike.

These divisions of the gatekeepers, under their leading men, had duties for ministering in the LORD's temple, just as their relatives did.

So he said to the people of Judah, “Let's build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, with doors and bars. The land is still ours because we sought the LORD our God. We sought him and he gave us rest on every side.” So they built and succeeded.

This continued day after day until two full years passed. Then his intestines came out because of his disease, and he died from severe[fn] illnesses. But his people did not hold a fire in his honor like the fire in honor of his predecessors.

Then the whole assembly made a covenant with the king in God's temple. Jehoiada said to them, “Here is the king's son! He will reign, just as the LORD promised concerning David's sons.

Then Jehoiada put the oversight of the LORD's temple into the hands of the Levitical priests, whom David had appointed over the LORD's temple, to offer burnt offerings to the LORD as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and song ordained by[fn] David.

Then a proclamation was issued in Judah and Jerusalem that the tax God's servant Moses imposed on Israel in the wilderness be brought to the LORD.

However, he did not put their children to death, because ​— ​as it is written in the Law, in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded ​— ​“Fathers are not to die because of children, and children are not to die because of fathers, but each one will die for his own sin.”

“Don't be like your ancestors and your brothers who were unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their ancestors so that he made them an object of horror as you yourselves see.

Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were deputies under the authority of Conaniah and his brother Shimei by appointment of King Hezekiah and of Azariah the chief official of God's temple.

In the eighteenth year of Josiah's reign, this Passover was observed.

They responded, “We will return these things and require nothing more from them. We will do as you say.”

So I summoned the priests and made everyone take an oath to do this.

When Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and that no gap was left in it ​— ​though at that time I had not installed the doors in the city gates ​— ​

Esther still did not reveal her family background or her ethnicity, as Mordecai had directed. She obeyed Mordecai's orders, as she always had while he raised her.

The king told Haman, “Hurry, and do just as you proposed. Take a garment and a horse for Mordecai the Jew, who is sitting at the King's Gate. Do not leave out anything you have suggested.”

So the Jews agreed to continue the practice they had begun, as Mordecai had written them to do.

The wadis evaporate in warm weather;

they disappear from their channels in hot weather.

“Do you have eyes of flesh,

or do you see as a human sees?

Then Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD had told them, and the LORD accepted Job's prayer.

“Hear my prayer, LORD,

and listen to my cry for help;

do not be silent at my tears.

For I am here with you as an alien,

a temporary resident like all my ancestors.

They treacherously turned away like their ancestors;

they became warped like a faulty bow.

As a father has compassion on his children,

so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.

When you make a vow to God, don't delay fulfilling it, because he does not delight in fools. Fulfill what you vow.

As he came from his mother's womb, so he will go again, naked as he came; he will take nothing for his efforts that he can carry in his hands.

For the king's word is authoritative, and who can say to him, “What are you doing? ”

Yet no one knows what will happen because who can tell him what will happen?

Everything is the same for everyone: There is one fate for the righteous and the wicked, for the good and the bad,[fn] for the clean and the unclean, for the one who sacrifices and the one who does not sacrifice. As it is for the good, so also it is for the sinner; as it is for the one who takes an oath, so also for the one who fears an oath.

How unstable you are,

constantly changing your ways!

You will be put to shame by Egypt

just as you were put to shame by Assyria.

“what I did to Shiloh I will do to the house that bears my name, the house in which you trust, the place that I gave you and your ancestors.

in order to establish the oath I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is today.' ”

I answered, “Amen, LORD.”

“If they will diligently learn the ways of my people ​— ​to swear by my name, ‘As the LORD lives,' just as they taught my people to swear by Baal ​— ​they will be built up among my people.

So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

What will you say when he appoints

close friends as leaders over you,

ones you yourself trained?

Won't labor pains seize you,

as they do a woman in labor?

“Do not carry a load out of your houses on the Sabbath day or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, just as I commanded your ancestors.

But the jar that he was making from the clay became flawed in the potter's hand, so he made it into another jar, as it seemed right for him to do.

“House of Israel, can I not treat you as this potter treats his clay? ” ​— ​this is the LORD's declaration. “Just like clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.

“and you are to proclaim to them, ‘This is what the LORD of Armies says: I will shatter these people and this city, like one shatters a potter's jar that can never again be mended. They will bury the dead in Topheth because there is no other place for burials.

“The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah will become impure like that place Topheth ​— ​all the houses on whose rooftops they have burned incense to all the stars in the sky and poured out drink offerings to other gods.' ”

But the LORD is with me like a violent warrior.

Therefore, my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.

Since they have not succeeded, they will be utterly shamed,

an everlasting humiliation that will never be forgotten.

Then the priests and prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man deserves the death sentence because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”

“I will restore the fortunes[fn] of Judah and of Israel and will rebuild them as in former times.

the prophet Jeremiah and said, “May our petition come before you; pray to the LORD your God on our behalf, on behalf of this entire remnant (for few of us remain out of the many, as you can see with your own eyes),

“For this is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Just as my anger and fury were poured out on Jerusalem's residents, so will my fury pour out on you if you go to Egypt. You will become an example for cursing, scorn, execration, and disgrace, and you will never see this place again.'

The destroyer will move against every town;

not one town will escape.

The valley will perish,

and the plain will be annihilated,

as the LORD has said.

Raise a war cry against her on every side!

She has thrown up her hands in surrender;

her defense towers have fallen;

her walls are demolished.

Since this is the LORD's vengeance,

take your vengeance on her;

as she has done, do the same to her.

Therefore, this is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am about to punish the king of Babylon and his land just as I punished the king of Assyria.

Just as God demolished Sodom and Gomorrah

and their neighboring towns —

this is the LORD's declaration —

so no one will live there;

no human being will stay in it even temporarily

as a temporary resident.

LORD, bring us back to yourself, so we may return;

renew our days as in former times,

The appearance of the wheels and their craftsmanship was like the gleam of beryl, and all four had the same likeness. Their appearance and craftsmanship was like a wheel within a wheel.

“And you, son of man, listen to what I tell you: Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.”

So I got up and went out to the plain. The LORD's glory was present there, like the glory I had seen by the Chebar Canal, and I fell facedown.

Then the man clothed in linen and carrying writing equipment reported back, “I have done all that you commanded me.”

I made you thrive[fn] like plants of the field. You grew up and matured and became very beautiful.[fn] Your breasts were formed and your hair grew, but you were stark naked.

“ ‘Look, everyone who uses proverbs will quote this proverb about you: “Like mother, like daughter.”

“They were haughty and did detestable acts before me, so I removed them when I saw this.[fn]

“As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former state. You and your daughters will also return to your former state.

“ ‘For this is what the Lord GOD says: I will deal with you according to what you have done, since you have despised the oath by breaking the covenant.

“Just as one gathers silver, copper, iron, lead, and tin into the furnace to blow fire on them and melt them, so I will gather you in my anger and wrath, put you inside, and melt you.

So I prophesied as I had been commanded. While I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.

Its windows, portico, and palm trees had the same measurements as those of the gate that faced east. Seven steps led up to the gate, and its portico was ahead of them.

Both the gate and its portico had windows all around, like the other windows. It was 87½ feet long and 43¾ feet wide.

For they were arranged in three stories and had no pillars like the pillars of the courts; therefore the upper chambers were set back from the ground more than the lower and middle stories.

“At the festival that begins on the fifteenth day of the seventh month,[fn] he will provide the same things for seven days ​— ​the same sin offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings, and oil.

“He will provide a grain offering of half a bushel with the bull, half a bushel with the ram, and whatever he can afford with the lambs, together with a gallon of oil for every half bushel.

“At the festivals and appointed times, the grain offering will be half a bushel with the bull, half a bushel with the ram, and whatever he wants to give with the lambs, along with a gallon of oil for every half bushel.

As the man went out east with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a third of a mile[fn] and led me through the water. It came up to my ankles.

“You will inherit it in equal portions, since I swore[fn] to give it to your ancestors. So this land will fall to you as an inheritance.

“Next to the territory of Judah, from the east side to the west, will be the portion you donate to the LORD, 8⅓ miles[fn] wide, and as long as one of the tribal portions from the east side to the west. The sanctuary will be in the middle of it.

“Then examine our appearance and the appearance of the young men who are eating the king's food, and deal with your servants based on what you see.”

“You saw the iron mixed with clay ​— ​the peoples will mix with one another[fn] but will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with fired clay.

When Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house. The windows in its upstairs room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Just as it is written in the law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our iniquities and paying attention to your truth.

Otherwise, I will strip her naked

and expose her as she was on the day of her birth.

I will make her like a desert

and like a parched land,

and I will let her die of thirst.

Then the LORD said to me, “Go again; show love to a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, just as the LORD loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”

The same judgment will happen

to both people and priests.

I will punish them for their ways

and repay them for their deeds.

As they are going, I will spread my net over them;

I will bring them down like birds of the sky.

I will discipline them in accordance

with the news that reaches[fn] their assembly.

Israel, do not rejoice jubilantly as the nations do,

for you have acted promiscuously, leaving your God.

You love the wages of a prostitute

on every grain-threshing floor.

The residents of Samaria will have anxiety

over the calf of Beth-aven.

Indeed, its idolatrous priests rejoiced over it;

the people will mourn over it,

over its glory.

It will certainly go into exile.

Israel called to the Egyptians

even as Israel was leaving them.[fn]

They kept sacrificing to the Baals

and burning offerings to idols.

I have been the LORD your God

ever since[fn] the land of Egypt.

I will make you live in tents again,

as in the festival days.

Children of Zion, rejoice and be glad

in the LORD your God,

because he gives you the autumn rain[fn]

for your vindication.[fn]

He sends showers for you,

both autumn and spring rain as before.

Yet I destroyed the Amorite as Israel advanced;

his height was like the cedars,

and he was as sturdy as the oaks;

I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

I overthrew some of you

as I[fn] overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,

and you were like a burning stick

snatched from a fire,

yet you did not return to me —

This is the LORD's declaration.

In that day

I will restore the fallen shelter of David:

I will repair its gaps,

restore its ruins,

and rebuild it as in the days of old,

As you have drunk on my holy mountain,

so all the nations will drink continually.

They will drink and gulp down

and be as though they had never been.

Jonah got up and went to Nineveh according to the LORD's command.

Now Nineveh was an extremely great city,[fn] a three-day walk.

Shepherd your people with your staff,

the flock that is your possession.

They live alone in a woodland

surrounded by pastures.

Let them graze in Bashan and Gilead

as in ancient times.

For the LORD will restore the majesty of Jacob,

yes,[fn] the majesty of Israel,

though ravagers have ravaged them

and ruined their vine branches.

Beauty[fn] is stripped;[fn]

she is carried away;

her ladies-in-waiting moan

like the sound of doves

and beat their breasts.

Moreover, wine[fn] betrays;

an arrogant man is never at rest.[fn]

He enlarges his appetite like Sheol,

and like Death he is never satisfied.

He gathers all the nations to himself;

he collects all the peoples for himself.

“‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Doesn't it seem to you like nothing by comparison?

“Do not be like your ancestors; the earlier prophets proclaimed to them: This is what the LORD of Armies says: Turn from your evil ways and your evil deeds. But they did not listen or pay attention to me ​— ​this is the LORD's declaration.

“But didn't my words and my statutes that I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors? ' ”

So the people repented and said, “As the LORD of Armies decided to deal with us for our ways and our deeds, so he has dealt with us.”

“The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of David's house and the glory of Jerusalem's residents may not be greater than that of Judah.

Then the LORD will go out to fight against those nations as he fights on a day of battle.

You will flee by my mountain valley,[fn] for the valley of the mountains will extend to Azal. You will flee as you fled[fn] from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come and all the holy ones with him.[fn]

And the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the LORD as in days of old and years gone by.

So they returned to the city quietly that day like troops come in when they are humiliated after fleeing in battle.

So the LORD has fulfilled what he promised.

I have taken the place of my father David

and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised.

I have built the temple for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

I became extremely angry when I heard their outcry and these complaints.
