As he was telling them these things, suddenly one of the leaders came and knelt down before him, saying, “My daughter just died,[fn] but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”

While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader's house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the teacher anymore? ”

And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.”

So he[fn] took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up! ”

Late in the day, the Twelve approached and said to him, “Send the crowd away, so that they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging, because we are in a deserted place here.”

As the crowds were increasing, he began saying, “This generation is an evil generation. It demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.[fn]

“The second came and said, ‘Master, your mina has made five minas.'

Jesus answered them, “My teaching isn't mine but is from the one who sent me.

When Jesus stood up, he said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? ”

Then the company of soldiers, the commander, and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus and tied him up.

“My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn't be handed over to the Jews. But as it is,[fn] my kingdom is not from here.”

“Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern he had seen.

Let love be without hypocrisy. Detest evil; cling to what is good.

My defense to those who examine me is this:

Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant,

Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.

Indeed, this is our boast: The testimony of our conscience is that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you, with godly sincerity and purity, not by human wisdom but by God's grace.

Brothers and sisters, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

By professing it, some people have departed from the faith.

Grace be with you all.

The grace of the Lord[fn] Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

Let brotherly love continue.

And they cried out in a loud voice:

Salvation belongs to our God,

who is seated on the throne,

and to the Lamb!

The first woe has passed. There are still two more woes to come after this.
