These are the names of the twelve apostles: First, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
He said, “Come.”
And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus.
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, “Oh no,[fn] Lord! This will never happen to you! ”
Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it's good for us to be here. If you want, I will set up[fn] three shelters here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Then Peter approached him and asked, “Lord, how many times must I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? As many as seven times? ”
Then Peter responded to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you. So what will there be for us? ”
Peter told him, “Even if everyone falls away because of you, I will never fall away.”
“Even if I have to die with you,” Peter told him, “I will never deny you,” and all the disciples said the same thing.
Peter was following him at a distance right to the high priest's courtyard. He went in and was sitting with the servants to see the outcome.
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl approached him and said, “You were with Jesus the Galilean too.”
and Peter remembered the words Jesus had spoken, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
“But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am? ”
Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.”
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it's good for us to be here. Let's set up three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” —
Then Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.”
While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives across from the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,
Peter followed him at a distance, right into the high priest's courtyard. He was sitting with the servants,[fn] warming himself by the fire.
Immediately a rooster crowed a second time, and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus's knees and said, “Go away from me, because I'm a sinful man, Lord! ”
“But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am? ”
Peter answered, “God's Messiah.”
Peter and those with him were in a deep sleep,[fn] and when they became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men who were standing with him.
As the two men were departing from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it's good for us to be here. Let's set up three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not knowing what he was saying.
They seized him, led him away, and brought him into the high priest's house. Meanwhile Peter was following at a distance.
They lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, and Peter sat among them.
After a little while, someone else saw him and said, “You're one of them too.”
“Man, I am not! ” Peter said.
But Peter said, “Man, I don't know what you're talking about! ” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.
Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”
Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. When he stooped to look in, he saw only the linen cloths.[fn] So he went away, amazed at what had happened.
“You will never wash my feet,” Peter said.
Jesus replied, “If I don't wash you, you have no part with me.”
“Lord,” Simon Peter said to him, “where are you going? ”
Jesus answered, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”
Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.)
Simon Peter was following Jesus, as was another disciple. That disciple was an acquaintance of the high priest; so he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard.
But Peter remained standing outside by the door. So the other disciple, the one known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the girl who was the doorkeeper and brought Peter in.
Now the servants and the officials had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold. They were standing there warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, warming himself.
Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said to him, “You aren't one of his disciples too, are you? ”
He denied it and said, “I am not.”
One of the high priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn't I see you with him in the garden? ”
Then, following him, Simon Peter also came. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there.
Simon Peter, Thomas (called “Twin”[fn]), Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, Zebedee's sons, and two others of his disciples were together.
“I'm going fishing,” Simon Peter said to them.
“We're coming with you,” they told him. They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
The disciple, the one Jesus loved, said to Peter, “It is the Lord! ”
When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tied his outer clothing around him (for he had taken it off) and plunged into the sea.
So Simon Peter climbed up and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish — 153 of them. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.
He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me? ”
Peter was grieved that he asked him the third time, “Do you love me? ” He said, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
“Feed my sheep,” Jesus said.
So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is the one that's going to betray you? ”
When they arrived, they went to the room upstairs where they were staying: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.
In those days Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters[fn] — the number of people who were together was about a hundred twenty — and said,
Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed to them, “Fellow Jews and all you residents of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and pay attention to my words.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple for the time of prayer at three in the afternoon.[fn]
But Peter said, “I don't have silver or gold, but what I do have, I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk! ”
When Peter saw this, he addressed the people: “Fellow Israelites, why are you amazed at this? Why do you stare at us, as though we had made him walk by our own power or godliness?
Then Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders:[fn]
Peter and John answered them, “Whether it's right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;
“Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds of the land?
“Tell me,” Peter asked her, “did you sell the land for this price? ”
“Yes,” she said, “for that price.”
Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
But Peter told him, “May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed,”[fn] and immediately he got up.
Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples heard that Peter was there and sent two men to him who urged him, “Don't delay in coming with us.”
Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him to the room upstairs. And all the widows approached him, weeping and showing him the robes and clothes that Dorcas had made while she was with them.
Peter sent them all out of the room. He knelt down, prayed, and turning toward the body said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, saw Peter, and sat up.
The next day, as they were traveling and nearing the city, Peter went up to pray on the roof about noon.[fn]
“No, Lord! ” Peter said. “For I have never eaten anything impure and ritually unclean.”
While Peter was deeply perplexed about what the vision he had seen might mean, right away the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions to Simon's house, stood at the gate.
Then Peter went down to the men and said, “Here I am, the one you're looking for. What is the reason you're here? ”
“Therefore send someone to Joppa and invite Simon here, who is also named Peter. He is lodging in Simon the tanner's house by the sea.'[fn]

When Herod was about to bring him out for trial, that very night Peter, bound with two chains, was sleeping between two soldiers, while the sentries in front of the door guarded the prison.
When Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod's grasp and from all that the Jewish people expected.”
Peter, however, kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were amazed.
At daylight, there was a great commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter.
After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you are aware that in the early days God made a choice among you,[fn] that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the gospel message and believe.
On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel for the uncircumcised, just as Peter was for the circumcised,
