The Fall of Mankind

1 Now the serpent ^H5175 was more ^H4480 cunning ^H6175 than ^H4480 any ^H3605 animal ^H2416 of the field ^H7704 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 had made ^H6213. And he said ^H559 to the woman ^H802, “Has God ^H430 really ^H637 H3588 said ^H559, ‘You shall not eat ^H398 from any ^H3605 tree ^H6086 of the garden ^H1588’?”

2 The woman ^H802 said ^H559 to the serpent ^H5175, “From the fruit ^H6529 of the trees ^H6086 of the garden ^H1588 we may eat ^H398; 3 but from the fruit ^H6529 of the tree ^H6086 which ^H834 is in the middle ^H8432 of the garden ^H1588, God ^H430 has said ^H559, ‘You shall not eat ^H398 from it or touch ^H5060 it, or you will die ^H4191.’” 4 The serpent ^H5175 said ^H559 to the woman ^H802, “You certainly ^H4191 will not die ^H4191! 5 For God ^H430 knows ^H3045 that on the day ^H3117 you eat ^H398 from it your eyes ^H5869 will be opened ^H6491, and you will [fn]become ^H1961 like God ^H430, knowing ^H3045 good ^H2896 and evil ^H7451.” 6 When the woman ^H802 saw ^H7200 that the tree ^H6086 was good ^H2896 for food ^H3978, and that it was a delight ^H8378 to the eyes ^H5869, and that the tree ^H6086 was desirable ^H2530 to make ^H7919 one wise ^H7919, she took ^H3947 some ^H4480 of its fruit ^H6529 and ate ^H398; and she also ^H1571 gave ^H5414 some to her husband ^H376 with her, and he ate ^H398. 7 Then the eyes ^H5869 of both ^H8147 of them were opened ^H6491, and they knew ^H3045 that they were naked ^H5903; and they sewed ^H8609 fig ^H8384 leaves ^H5929 together ^H8609 and made ^H6213 themselves ^H1992 waist ^H2290 coverings ^H2290.

8 Now they heard ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 walking ^H1980 in the garden ^H1588 in the [fn]cool ^H7307 of the day ^H3117, and the man ^H120 and his wife ^H802 hid ^H2244 themselves from the presence ^H6440 of the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 among ^H8432 the trees ^H6086 of the garden ^H1588. 9 Then the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 called ^H7121 to the man ^H120, and said ^H559 to him, “Where ^H335 are you?” 10 He said ^H559, “I heard ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of You in the garden ^H1588, and I was ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 because ^H3588 I was naked ^H5903; so I hid ^H2244 myself.” 11 And He said ^H559, “Who ^H4310 told ^H5046 you that you were naked ^H5903? Have you eaten ^H398 from the tree ^H6086 from which ^H834 I commanded ^H6680 you not to eat ^H398?” 12 The man ^H120 said ^H559, “The woman ^H802 whom ^H834 You gave ^H5414 to be with me, she gave ^H5414 me some ^H4480 of the fruit of the tree ^H6086, and I ate ^H398.” 13 Then the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 said ^H559 to the woman ^H802, “What ^H4100 is this ^H2088 that you have done ^H6213?” And the woman ^H802 said ^H559, “The serpent ^H5175 deceived ^H5378 me, and I ate ^H398.” 14 Then the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 said ^H559 to the serpent ^H5175,

“Because ^H3588 you have done ^H6213 this ^H2088,

Cursed ^H779 are you more ^H4480 than ^H4480 all ^H3605 the livestock ^H929,

And more ^H4480 than ^H4480 any ^H3605 animal ^H2416 of the field ^H7704;

On your belly ^H1512 you shall go ^H1980,

And dust ^H6083 you shall eat ^H398

All ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of your life ^H2416;

15 And I will [fn]make ^H7896 enemies ^H342

Of you and the woman ^H802,

And of your [fn]offspring ^H2233 and her [fn]Descendant ^H2233;

He shall [fn]bruise ^H7779 you on the head ^H7218,

And you shall bruise ^H7779 Him on the heel ^H6119.”

16 To the woman ^H802 He said ^H559,

“I will greatly ^H7235 multiply ^H7235

Your pain ^H6093 [fn]in childbirth ^H2032,

In pain ^H6089 you shall deliver ^H3205 children ^H1121;

Yet your desire ^H8669 will be for your husband ^H376,

And he shall rule ^H4910 over you.”

17 Then to Adam ^H121 He said ^H559, “Because ^H3588 you have listened ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of your wife ^H802, and have eaten ^H398 from the tree ^H6086 about which ^H834 I commanded ^H6680 you, saying ^H559, ‘You shall not eat ^H398 from it’;

Cursed ^H779 is the ground ^H127 because ^H5668 of you;

With [fn]hard ^H6093 labor ^H6093 you shall eat ^H398 from it

All ^H3605 the days ^H3117 of your life ^H2416.

18 “Both thorns ^H6975 and thistles ^H1863 it shall grow ^H6779 for you;

Yet you shall eat ^H398 the [fn]plants ^H6212 of the field ^H7704;

19 By the sweat ^H2188 of your face ^H639

You shall eat ^H398 bread ^H3899,

Until ^H5704 you return ^H7725 to the ground ^H127,

Because ^H3588 from it you were taken ^H3947;

For you are dust ^H6083,

And to dust ^H6083 you shall return ^H7725.”

20 Now the man ^H120 named ^H7121 H8034 his wife ^H802 [fn]Eve ^H2332, because ^H3588 she was the mother ^H517 of all ^H3605 the living ^H2416. 21 And the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 made ^H6213 garments ^H3801 of skin ^H5785 for Adam ^H121 and his wife ^H802, and clothed ^H3847 them.

22 Then the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 said ^H559, “Behold ^H2005, the man ^H120 has become ^H1961 like one ^H259 of Us, knowing ^H3045 good ^H2896 and evil ^H7451; and now ^H6258, he might ^H6435 reach ^H7971 out ^H7971 with his hand ^H3027, and take ^H3947 fruit also ^H1571 from the tree ^H6086 of life ^H2416, and eat ^H398, and live ^H2421 forever ^H5769”— 23 therefore the LORD ^H3068 God ^H430 sent ^H7971 him out ^H7971 of the Garden ^H1588 of Eden ^H5731, to cultivate ^H5647 the ground ^H127 from which ^H834 he was taken ^H3947. 24 So He drove ^H1644 the man ^H120 out ^H1644; and at the east ^H6924 of the Garden ^H1588 of Eden ^H5731 He stationed ^H7931 the cherubim ^H3742 and the flaming ^H3858 sword ^H2719 which turned ^H2015 every direction to guard ^H8104 the way ^H1870 to the tree ^H6086 of life ^H2416.
