Sermon Outline for Romans 10:14-18

  1. Witness of the Gospel
    1. Formerly limited to the Jews
    2. Under the New Covenant it is worldwide
    3. This declaration now requires witnesses &#8211 preachers
    4. The Word of God must be heard
  2. The Witnesses
    1. In the general sense all believers are preachers – proclaimers
    2. In another sense there are men who are called by God to preach
    3. Biblical texts – Jhn 8:32; Jhn 10:22-30
  3. The Content of the Message
    1. It must never be anything but the Word of God
    2. It must keep Christ central
      1. Who He is
      2. What He has done
      3. His return
    3. The result depends upon God
  4. Lord of the Witness
    1. He sends those whom He chooses
    2. He directs those whom He sends
    3. No one should try to make himself a preacher or decide where he will work
    4. The Church must determine the call
    5. The Church must confirm the man
  5. Necessity of the Witness – Preaching
    1. Salvation depends on it
      1. “How shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?”
      2. “How shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard?”
      3. “How shall they hear without a witness?”
    2. The result of “hearing” is faith
      1. The inevitable effect is believing
      2. When the Gospel is “heard” faith is the result – Act 13:48
