"REDEMPTION"
Intro: These words express the purpose for Christ coming into the world. Perhaps you felt a little out of place as you came in today. He wants You to feel at home.
I. REDEMPTION INVOLVES LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS.
A. The world was lost.
1. It was originally God's by rights of creation.
2. Lost from its original intent and purpose.
a. Look around and observe conditions.
1. The savage beasts preying upon weaker animals.
a. We have reason to believe God did not create them that way. ("Kingdom age")
2. Violent storms.
a. Once whole earth of more moderate climate; mammoths in Arctic Circle.
b. Violent winds caused by hot and cold air masses.
3. The polluted conditions.
a. Rivers.
b. Air.
b. I have often thought that I would like to see the world as Adam saw it.
1. I wish now my children could have seen it as I saw it.
a. Here in Orange County smog was unheard of.
b. In spring the whole area smelled of the fragrance of orange blossoms.
3. How did it become lost to God?
a. God gave it to man as a glorious gift that man might live upon it in fellowship with God and enjoy its beauties.
b. Man turned it over to Satan at this point, it became lost to God.
B. Man is lost.
1. Originally God's by right of creation.
2. Lost from original intent and purpose.
a. It was God's intent that man should live in harmony and fellowship with one another and with God. Sharing equally in the joys and beauty that God had created.
b. Look around and observe conditions how far they have fallen from divine ideal.
1. See the rich oppress the poor.
2. See the strong oppress the weak.
3. See the corrupting influences of greed.
4. See the envy, strife, bitterness, hatred--man is lost.
3. How did man become lost?
a. Through disobedience to God, caused by:
1. Greed, desire for yet something more, not legally his.
2. Unbelief in the warnings of God.
a. How could a God of love punish for following your natural instincts?
C. Redemption thus involves you and me and the world around us.
II. REDEMPTION IS THE PURPOSE OF CHRIST COMING INTO THE WORLD. "FOR THE SON OF MAN HAS COME TO..."
A. God was not so interested in redeeming the world as He was to redeem man.
1. He could have created all the world He desired.
a. How many billions of billions of worlds he has created we have no way of knowing.
2. He cannot create another you. You are unique to Him.
B. To redeem you, He redeemed the world.
1. Ruth (Elimelech...)
2. Kingdom of God like man going through field.
