Romans in Outline No. 107

(SUMMARY) FIVE ARGUMENTS PROVING GOD HAS A FUTURE PURPOSE FOR ISRAEL AS A NATION

Romans 11:11-24

— Argument #1: The salvation of the Gentiles was designed to reach Israel:

Romans 11:11b

— Argument #2: The best is yet to come when worldwide blessing comes through Israel

Romans 11:12-15

— Argument #3: The acceptable firstfruits indicates the rest will be accepted

Romans 11:16a

1.1  ARGUMENT #4: ISRAEL THE BRANCH BROKEN OFF ALLOWS FOR THE GENTILES AS WILD OLIVE BRANCHES TO BE GRAFTED IN

Romans 11:16b-21

Romans 11:19-21

2.1  The argument of a believing Gentile

Romans 11:19

2.2  Paul’s response recognizing the kernel of truth in what was said

Romans 11:20a

1.2  THE WARNING IN THE LIGHT OF THE ARGUMENT

Romans 11:20b-21

2.1  The basis for standing: faith

2.2  The wrong attitude: pride

2.3  The right attitude: fear

2.4  The rationale for the warning

1.3  ARGUMENT #5: GOD, HAVING GRAFTED IN WILD OLIVE BRANCHES, WILL BE MUCH MORE READY TO GRAFT IN THE NATURAL BRANCHES WHEN THEY TURN TO HIM IN FAITH

Romans 11:22-24

2.1  The consideration: goodness and severity of God

Romans 11:22

3.1  TOWARDS THE UNBELIEVING: SEVERITY

3.2  TOWARDS THE BELIEVING: GOODNESS

3.3  THE NECESSITY OF CONTINUING IN GOODNESS

2.2  The “how much more”

3.1  GOD IS ABLE TO GRAFT ISRAEL AGAIN

Romans 11:23

3.2  GENTILES IN AN UNNATURAL WAY WERE GRAFTED IN

Romans 11:24a

3.3  THEN ISRAEL WILL BE GRAFTED IN TO THEIR OWN OLIVE TREE

Romans 11:24b

Romans 11:19-24

19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” 20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. 23And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?(NKJV)
