这封给加拉太之教会的信，以保罗建立他作为使徒的权柄为信的开头。使徒一词仅指"被差遣的人"。原来有12位使徒，他们与耶稣同在，但在基督死去、埋葬和复活后，保罗被加入他们的行列。在使徒行传9章中，保罗在前往大马士革的路上，看见了被荣耀的耶稣，并随后被基督指定去事工。
