希伯是第四代，是族长祖先中活过四个世纪的最后一代。希伯之后的六代人的寿命约为诺亚之后前四代人的寿命的一半。到了大卫王时代（公元前 1000 年左右），也就是亚伯拉罕之后的第十四代（马太福音 1:17），预期寿命为 70 岁，大致相当于当今发达国家的寿命（诗篇 90:10）。
