亚伯拉罕对以弗仑的提议表示尊重-他在当地人面前鞠躬。然而，亚伯拉罕想当场就把洞穴保住，于是他告诉以弗仑，让当地人听到（让所有人都见证这笔交易） ，说：“如果你愿意听我说，我会给出这块田地的价钱，请接受，这样我就可以在那里埋葬我的死者。”他直奔主题，提出支付要价来拥有这个洞穴，以及以弗仑在上一段中加上的田地。亚伯拉罕一开始没有提出要价，这将使他处于不利的谈判地位。但亚伯拉罕似乎更热衷于拥有无可争议的所有权，并继续与当地人保持良好的关系。
