这一预言应验的对应记载是在马可福音 1:3，路加福音 3:3-6 和约翰福音 1:23。
第 3 节涵盖了马太所引用的第六个直接性预言应验，作为耶稣是君王弥赛亚的证据。根据马太福音，约翰是在旷野有人声喊着说的那一位，是先知性先驱，警告各人 "预备主的道，修直他的路！" 这人声宣告主的到来，也留心各人要预备道路。
马太只引用了这则预言的前几行，但许多犹太人会立刻认出这段经文，并有能力凭记忆完成余剩的部分。以赛亚的预言继续：
"有人声喊着说：

一切山洼都要填满，

"天国近了"
约翰宣告这一信息时正值犹太旷野，这一事实进一步将他与这则预言联系起来。
