箴言10:12中，所罗门说： “恨能挑起纷争，爱能遮掩一切过犯。”（第12节）恨不仅滋生敌意，还会煽动和激化冲突。它使过错持续存在，并不断地将其转化为新的分裂契机。
相反，爱能遮盖一切过犯。这并非意味着爱会假装罪恶是好的，或无视公义。而是指爱不会以揭露、放大或利用他人的过错为乐。爱会尽可能地寻求修复，而不是公开羞辱或报复。
这一原则在《彼得前书》4章8节中再次出现，经文说爱能遮盖许多的罪。爱之所以能遮盖，是因为它寻求医治、和平与和解。仇恨只会不断地撕开伤口，而爱却选择能够弥合罪恶所造成的创伤的道路。
