箴言10:31中，所罗门写道： “义人的口流出智慧；乖谬的舌头必被割除。”（31节）所罗门再次表明，言语反映内心的状态。义人自然而然地以真理和智慧说话。
“流淌”一词蕴含着丰盈与延续。智慧并非只在极少数时刻才从正直之人身上涌现。因为智慧塑造了内在生命，所以它会定期且恰当地流露出来。言语乃是内心秩序井然的自然流露。
然而，邪恶的舌头所说的是扭曲、虚假或败坏的话语。所罗门说，这样的舌头必被剪除，这象征着严厉的审判。上帝极其重视言语，因为言语具有道德力量。不断歪曲真理的言语，必不能成为最终的发言权。
