然而，羞辱他的妻子被比作他骨头里的腐烂。这个意象指向一种深层的、内在的、持续的腐蚀。骨头是隐藏的力量；骨头里的腐烂则从内部削弱人的力量。所罗门的意思是，盟约关系对人类生活有着强大的塑造作用，要么引领人走向荣耀和力量，要么引领人走向隐秘的悲伤和衰败。
