Next, Bezalel, the chief craftsman, made the veil of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen; he made it with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman.The veil (Heb. "parokeh") was the curtain that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place (Exodus 26:33). It was made of blue and purple and scarlet material, according to the instructions in Exodus 26:31. And because of the importance of the veil, it needed to be flawless, so it was the work of a skillful workman.
The veil needed to be supported, so he made four pillars of acacia for it, and overlaid them with gold, with their hooks of gold; and he cast four sockets of silver for them. The pillars were the frame upon which the veil was hung. Because it was in a holy place, the pillars needed to be overlaid with gold. The hooks of gold and four sockets of silver were used to attach the veil to the pillars.
Next, Bezalel made a screen for the doorway of the tent, meaning the door of the tabernacle. Like the curtains, it was made of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen, and it was the work of a weaver. To support the screen (Heb. "masak"), he made five pillars with their hooks, and he overlaid their tops and their bands with gold; but their five sockets were of bronze. The tops of the pillars were covered with gold, while the five sockets ("bases," meaning the bottom of the pillars which rested on the ground) were covered with bronze, a less precious metal.
