In Proverbs 11:7, Solomon writes, When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, and the hope of strong men perishes (v. 7). Wickedness may appear powerful while life remains, but death strips away every false confidence. What seemed secure is shown to be temporary.
The expectation of the wicked perishes because it was rooted in what cannot endure. Strength, influence, reputation, and earthly plans all reach their limit at death. Solomon is reminding the reader that a life built without God has no lasting future.
The phrase the hope of strong men perishes underscores that human strength by itself cannot defeat mortality. Psalm 49 makes a similar point, showing that wealth and worldly standing cannot redeem a life from the grave. Lasting hope must come from beyond human power.
