In Proverbs 12:26, Solomon says, The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray (v. 26). Righteousness has influence. The godly do not walk alone; they become a directional help to those around them.
The righteous person is a guide to his neighbor because wisdom naturally becomes instructive. Through example, counsel, and integrity, he helps others discern the way of life. This is part of what it means for righteousness to bear fruit beyond oneself.
The way of the wicked, however, leads them astray. Wickedness is contagious in its influence, pulling others off course through bad example, deception, or enticement. This proverb reminds us that every life teaches something. The question is whether it guides toward wisdom or drifts toward ruin.
