The Bible Says
Proverbs 12:3 Meaning

In Proverbs 12:3, Solomon writes, A man will not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will not be moved (v. 3). Wickedness may appear to provide a quick advantage, but it cannot create lasting stability. A life built on corruption lacks the structure to endure.

To be established means to have a firm, settled, enduring place. Solomon says wickedness cannot do that because it works against the grain of God’s world. Evil may seem strong for a season, but it cannot produce the deep-rooted security that comes from righteousness.

By contrast, the root of the righteous will not be moved. The image of a root suggests hidden strength, nourishment, and endurance. Righteousness produces this kind of stability because it is connected to reality and to God’s design. Jesus echoes this principle in the Gospels, where the one who builds on His words remains firm when the storm comes (to learn more about how a life grounded in obedience to Christ provides enduring stability that withstands judgment, please read our commentary on Matthew 7:24-27).
