In Proverbs 13:17, Solomon writes, A wicked messenger falls into adversity, but a faithful envoy brings healing (v. 17). The proverb focuses on representation and trust. A messenger carries more than words; he carries responsibility.
A wicked messenger falls into adversity because unfaithfulness damages the mission entrusted to him. Whether through deceit, laziness, or selfishness, he disrupts what should have been delivered well. Unreliability creates trouble not only for others but for the messenger himself.
A faithful envoy, however, brings healing. Faithfulness repairs, strengthens, and preserves relationships. When a person handles responsibility truthfully, he becomes a source of peace rather than fracture. This is true in ordinary human matters and also points toward the beauty of faithfully bearing God’s truth.
