Nos cinco primeiros versículos desta carta, Paulo estabelece a mensagem do Evangelho (boas novas): Cristo morreu por nossos pecados, Deus O ressuscitou dos mortos para nos resgatar desta atual era maligna. Tudo de acordo com a vontade do nosso Deus.
Paulo apresenta sua mensagem do Evangelho antecipadamente. No versículo seguinte, Paulo repreenderá aos Gálatas por abandonarem essa mensagem.
Como veremos nos capítulos seguintes, Paulo luta contra a falsa mensagem do Evangelho que sustentava uma vida centrada em regras e leis no lugar do andar pela fé em Cristo e Sua morte na cruz.
O poder da cruz nos resgata desta atual era maligna. Paulo enfatiza em Gálatas que o andar pela fé no poder do Espírito é a obra adequada do Evangelho da graça. Esta é a vontade de nosso Deus e Pai, sermos resgatados da penalidade, bem como do poder do pecado em nossas vidas. Como veremos, a obediência a regras religiosas não tem esse poder.
