Abraão continua sua intercessão, agora em incrementos de dez. Depois de começar a negociação nos cinquenta, Abraão desce chega aos vinte; então, decide fazer um último pedido: "Porventura, achar-se-ão ali vinte? Curiosamente, dez era o número de pessoas na família de Ló. Havia Ló, sua esposa, seus dois filhos, suas duas filhas casadas, seus dois genros e suas duas filhas solteiras (Gênesis 19:12-14). Deus promete: "Não a destruirei por causa dos dez". Logo veremos que Ló deveria deixar Sodoma para que Deus pudesse punir aos ímpios (Gênesis 19:16-17).
Quando a conversa entre Deus e Abraão termina, o Senhor partiu e Abraão voltou para seu lugar, sua tenda junto aos terebintos de Mamre em Hebrom (Gênesis 13:18, 18:1). Os incidentes deste capítulo aconteceram durante uma tarde em Mamre.
