O autor da epístola cita o Salmo 40:6-8, enquadrando-o de modo a fazer de Jesus o orador do salmo. No salmo, Jesus fala com Deus, dizendo que Ele não se importava com os sacrifícios de animais, que Ele não tinha prazer neles, enfatizando mais uma vez que aqueles sacrifícios eram apenas símbolos do que estava por vir. Jesus, em vez disso, tomou o corpo de um ser humano preparado por Deus e veio à terra (conforme profetizado) para fazer a vontade de Deus. É verdade que Deus exigia sacrifícios de animais dos israelitas. A exigência não tinha o objetivo de trazer deleite ou apaziguamento; ela servia a um propósito diferente, que era lembrar os israelitas de seu pecado e da santidade de Deus.
É fascinante refletir sobre as palavras que Jesus proferiu ao entrar no mundo. No Natal, quando celebramos o nascimento de Cristo, tendemos a nos concentrar no que foi dito no mundo a respeito de Jesus. Porém, estas palavras e pensamentos são do próprio Jesus antes de assumir a forma de ser humano e nascer como um bebê em uma manjedoura.
