Em Provérbios 10:5, Salomão diz: Quem ajunta no verão é um filho sábio, mas quem dorme no tempo da ceifa é um filho que faz envergonhar (v. 5). Este provérbio enfatiza o momento certo. A sabedoria não se limita a saber o que é certo; ela sabe quando agir. Os sábios reconhecem as estações do ano e respondem de forma apropriada.
Colher no verão significa aproveitar a estação das oportunidades. A colheita não espera para sempre, e a sabedoria compreende que algumas responsabilidades são urgentes. Um filho sábio é aquele que enxerga o momento presente e age com fidelidade, em vez de esperar até que a oportunidade tenha passado.
Em contraste, aquele que dorme na época da colheita não está descansando de forma saudável, mas sim deixando de agir no momento em que a ação é necessária. É por isso que Salomão o chama de vergonhoso. Ele não apenas cometeu um erro; desperdiçou uma oportunidade que lhe foi confiada. Este versículo recorda-nos que a mordomia inclui prontidão e que as oportunidades perdidas podem acarretar prejuízos que o arrependimento posterior não consegue facilmente compensar.
