Em Provérbios 11:13, Salomão escreve: O mexeriqueiro revela os segredos, mas aquele que é fiel de coração os encobre (v. 13). O mexeriqueiro registra informações para fins egoístas. A fofoca não constitui uma partilha neutra; frequentemente é o uso indevido da verdade para causar danos, satisfazer a curiosidade ou buscar autoafirmação.
Revelar segredos de forma descuidada demonstra falta de confiabilidade. O mexeriqueiro valoriza mais ser interessante do que ser fiel. Isso destrói a confiança, pois as pessoas não prosperam em relacionamentos onde as confidências são expostas casualmente.
A pessoa confiável, por outro lado, oculta um assunto. Isso não significa encobrir o mal que precisa ser abordado, mas sim proteger o que deve ser protegido. O amor e a sabedoria sabem quando o silêncio é um ato de fidelidade. Pessoas confiáveis se tornam porto seguro para os outros.
