Em Provérbios 11:16, Salomão diz: A mulher graciosa obtêm a honra, e os homens violentos obtêm a riqueza (v. 16). Este provérbio contrasta dois tipos diferentes de ganho. Um é a honra, que é relacional e moral; o outro são as riquezas, que podem ser adquiridas sem virtude.
Uma mulher virtuosa conquista honra porque a graça atrai um tipo de consideração que o dinheiro não pode comprar. Sua maneira de ser, seu caráter e a forma como trata os outros geram estima. Em Provérbios, a honra está ligada à conformidade com o que Deus aprova.
Homens implacáveis podem alcançar riquezas, mas o contraste sugere que a riqueza por si só não é o ganho supremo. Pode-se adquirir riqueza pela força ou agressão e ainda assim permanecer moralmente pobre. Salomão está, de forma sutil, questionando o leitor sobre qual recompensa realmente vale a pena buscar.
