Em Provérbios 11:7, Salomão escreve: Morrendo o perverso, perecerá a sua expectativa, e a esperança dos iníquos perece (v. 7). A maldade pode parecer poderosa enquanto houver vida, mas a morte destrói toda falsa confiança. O que parecia seguro revela-se temporário.
A expectativa dos ímpios perece porque estava enraizada naquilo que não pode perdurar. Força, influência, reputação e planos terrenos chegam ao seu limite com a morte. Salomão está lembrando o leitor de que uma vida construída sem Deus não tem futuro duradouro.
A frase a esperança dos iníquos perece ressalta que a força humana por si só não pode vencer a mortalidade. O Salmo 49 apresenta uma ideia semelhante, mostrando que a riqueza e a posição social não podem redimir uma vida da morte. A esperança duradoura deve vir de algo que transcende o poder humano.
