Don Stewart :: Isn't the Resurrection of the Dead a Scientific Impossibility?

Some have thought that the idea of a bodily resurrection is not physically possible. When people die the particles of their body enter into new combinations. Soon, nothing is left of the original body. How, then, will the bodies be raised?

Not Molecule For Molecule

The Scripture does not teach a molecule for molecule resurrection. Paul wrote.

And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain - perhaps wheat or some other grain (1 Corinthians 15:37).

There is a certain connection of the old and the new, but the exact nature of the connection is not revealed.

Impossible?

As to the possibility of God raising the dead, the Bible says the following thoughts should be kept in mind.

For nothing will be impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

Paul said to a pagan ruler.

Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead? (Acts 26:8).

The Lord is quoted as saying.

I am the LORD, the God of all humanity. Is anything too hard for Me? (Jeremiah 32:27).

Something From Nothing

Since God created the universe out of nothing, it certainly would not be a problem for Him to make a resurrection body out of something!

Summary

The Scriptures make it very clear that God will someday raise our bodies back to life. The new body will have some similarities, but will not exactly be the same as our present body. Though God has not told us how He is going to do this, it certainly is not beyond His power.
