The Bible gives tells us that we must control our sinful desires. The following ways help us with goal.

1.Flee

For the problem of lust we are told to flee the situations:

Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord, out of a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22).

2.Make To Die

The Bible commands us to suppress those desires that are sinful.

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God . . . Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience (Colossians 3:3,5).

3.Mind Occupied

We are to keep our mind occupied with good things:

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things( Philippians 4:8)

4.Prayer

One effective way is prayer. Jesus said:

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6).

5.Rid Of Things

We need to get rid of things that might cause us to sin.

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts (Romans 13:14).

Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:26,27).

Summary

These are some of the things the Bible encourages us to do to keep control over our sinful desires.
