George Edward Lynch Cotton (1813-1866) Born: October 29, 1813, Chester, England.

Died: October 6, 1866, Koshtea (does anyone know exactly where this is?).

Cotton’s father, Captain Thomas Cotton, was killed in action the year he was born. George was educated at Westminster and at Trinity College (B.A. 1836). His first appointment was as an assistant master at Rugby. In 1852, he became Headmaster at Marlborough. In 1858, he was appointed Bishop of Calcutta, succeeding Dr. Daniel Wilson. However, Cotton never assumed the duties of his post, as he drowned while disembarking from his ship.
