Sarah Doudney (1841-1926) Born: 1841, near Plymouth, England.

Doudney’s family moved to a remote village in Hampshire when she was very young. Her first literary effort was the poem “The Lessons of the Water-Mill,” written at age 15; it became a popular song in America. She was known to the reading public mainly through her stories, A Woman’s Glory, Stepping Stones, and others, and through her contributions to the Sunday Magazine, Good Words, and other periodicals. Those contributions included fiction, and sacred and secular poems. Houlston published her Psalms of Life in 1871.
