Franzèn studied theology in Turku, Åbo Akademi, and later in Uppsala, Sweden. In 1810, he moved to Sweden. In 1834, he became bishop of Härnösand. He also served as secretary of the Swedish Academy, and published a hymnal together with Johan Wallin.
