William Hunter (1811-1877) Born: May 26, 1811, near Ballymoney, County Antrim, Ireland.

Died: October 18, 1877, Cleveland, Ohio.

Hunter moved to America in 1817, and entered Madison College in 1830. For some time he edited the Conference Journal and the Christian Advocate. In 1855, he became Professor of Hebrew at Allegheny College. He later became minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Alliance, Stark County, Ohio. He wrote some 125 hymns, and edited:

  • Select Melodies, 1838-1851
  • Minstrel of Zion, 1845
  • Songs of Devotion, 1859
