Laurenti’s real name was Lorenz Lorenzen. He entered the University of Rostock in 1681. After a year and a half there, he went the University of Kiel to study music. While in Kiel, he adopted a Latinized name, which was not uncommon those days. In 1684, he became cantor and director of music at the Bremen cathedral. He wrote at least three dozen hymns in his lifetime, one of the best hymn writers of the Pietistic school.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
