Lindeman studied both theology and music, and became an organist at Vor Frelsers Church in Oslo (the church was renamed to Oslo Domkirke (cathedral) in 1950). Son of a concert pianist, Lindemann was one of the leading Norwegian musicians of the 19th Century, served as organist at Vor Frelsers Church for 47 years. He also collected almost 2,000 Norwegian folk tunes, publishing many in a 3-volume set (1853-1867). His other works include:
