Reissiger attended the Thomasschule in Leipzig, Germany, and studied music under Schicht, Salieri (1821), and Winter (1822). He also studied theology at the University of Leipzig. In 1824, his first opera, Didone abbandonata, opened in Dresden. He continued to study music in France and Italy, then moved to Berlin in 1825. In his lifetime, he wrote over 60 songs, 9 operas, 1 oratorio, 9 Latin masses, and 4 German masses.
