Born: March 16, 1873, New York City.

Died: August 25, 1945, Cleveland, Ohio.

Smyth attended the Institute for Musical Art in New York, and played in the Metropolitan Opera Company. He also served as choir director at churches in Atlanta, Georgia, and Indianapolis, Indiana, as song leader for Salvation Army tours with Maud Ballington Booth, and Wilbur Chapman. From 1913 onward, he was the music director at the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. He also led songs at the national convention of the American Republican Party in 1924, for conventions of Rotary International. His works include:
