William Vincent Wallace (1812-1865)

Wallace studied piano and organ while young, and had his first public violin performance in Dublin in 1834. He played the violin in the theater, and served as organist in a number of churches. In 1835 he moved to Tasmania, and founded a music academy in Sydney, Australia. Some time later, while in New York, he left his wife Isabella Kelly to marry pianist Helen Stoepel.

Wallace wrote songs, duets, piano solos, and operas, including Maritana and Lurline.
