Born: 1820, London, England.

Died: November 27, 1885, London, England.

Webb was educated at St. Paul’s School, and at Trinity College, Cambridge (B.A. 1842, M.A. 1845). Ordained by the Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol, he was assistant curate at Kemerton, Gloucestershire (1843-44); of Christ Church, St. Pancras (1847-49); and Brasted, Kent (1849-51). He became P.C. of Sheen, Staffordshire (1851); vicar of St. Andrews, Wells Street, London (1862); Prebend of Portpool, in St. Paul’s Cathedral (1881).

Webb was one of the founders of the Cambridge Camden, afterward the Ecclesiological Society; and editor of the Ecclesiologist (1842-1868), as well as the General Editor of the Society’s publications. His first appearance in print was as joint editor of Bishop Montague’s Articles of Inquiry in 1841. His other works include:

  • An Essay on Symbolism and A Translation of Durandus, co-authored with John Mason Neale, 1843
  • Continental Ecclesiology, 1847
  • Sermons, by Frank; 1848 (joint editor with his father-in-law, Dr. Mill, for the Anglo-Catholic Library
  • Hierurgia Anglicana, 1848 (joint editor with with J. Fuller-Russell)
  • Catechetical Lectures, by his father-in-law, Dr. Mill, 1856 (editor)
  • Mythical Interpretation of the Gospels, 1861, by Dr. Mill (editor, second edition)
  • Sermons on Our Lord’s Temptations, 1873, by Dr. Mill (editor)
  • Sarum Missal, Burntisland reprint (editor)
  • Instructions and Prayers for Candidates for Confirmation, 1882 (third edition)
  • Hymnal Noted (joint editor)
  • Hymnary, 1872 (joint editor with W. Cooke)
